Every figure on this page is illustrative mock data for a fictional community. Nothing here describes a real organization.

“No resident has ever had to leave Harrowgate Commons because they outlived their savings. That promise is the reason we exist, and it is the reason we are careful with every dollar.”

Our Benevolent Care Fund

Funded entirely by gifts from residents, families and the wider community. It covers the gap when a neighbor's resources run short, with no change to where they live or the care they receive.

How a Life Plan Community actually works

Two payments, one promise. The numbers in this sample are invented and are not a quote for anything.

A one time entrance fee

Paid when you move in. It reserves your residence and funds your priority access to care for life. Refundable options are available.

A monthly service fee

Covers dining, utilities, housekeeping, maintenance, transportation, the fitness center and all programming.

Care when you need it

If your health changes, you move to the level of support you need on this campus, at a predictable rate, without a waiting list.

The benevolence promise

If you outlive your resources through no fault of your own, our Benevolent Care Fund covers the difference. You stay.

Questions people actually ask

Answers are invented for this sample.

What happens if I run out of money?

You stay. Our Benevolent Care Fund exists for exactly this, and no resident has ever been asked to leave Harrowgate Commons for financial reasons. Your residence and your care do not change.

Is the entrance fee refundable?

It depends on the plan you choose. The traditional plan declines over 50 months. The 50 percent and 90 percent plans return that share of the fee to you or your estate when the residence is re-occupied.

Can my spouse and I have different levels of care?

Yes. Couples often live together in independent living while one person receives assisted living services in the apartment, or one moves to memory support while the other stays. There is no second entrance fee.

Do you accept Medicare and Medicaid?

Our health center accepts Medicare for qualifying short stay rehabilitation. Medicaid is accepted in a limited number of skilled nursing beds. Independent and assisted living are private pay, supported by the Benevolent Care Fund when needed.

How long is the wait list?

It varies by floor plan. Cottages run longest, typically two to three years in this sample, while one bedroom apartments often come available within a year. A priority deposit holds your place and is fully refundable.

Can I bring my car and my dog?

Both. Every cottage has a garage, apartments have assigned parking, and pets are welcome with no weight limit. There is a fenced dog meadow by the pond.

Giving

Ways to give

Gifts to the Benevolent Care Fund keep the promise that no neighbor leaves for financial reasons. Gifts to the Staff Education Fund send caregivers back to school.
